I am from Michigan, there was an anticle in a newspaper called the Equine Times from a group from PMU Babytrek. According to the article they have members in Alberta,Canada who bid on individual foal during the September auctions. The article goes on to say about 33,000 foals are born each year on farms affliated with NEARIC. Here is the breakdown of where these foals endedn up according to the article: 9% sold for show purposes,20% for recreational purposes,15% for ranch and rodeo riding and 24% kept for replacement stock. After talking to a representive from this group I was given the schedule and which type of foals were being audtioned in each city near Alberta in September. I am totally confused. Are there two kinds of auctions going on in Canada-one where the foals are sold in lots by the pound in Manatoba and one where they are sold individually in Alberta? I have also talked to a represenative from the Pegasus Fpundation who paint a horrible picture of more than 60,000 foals. I have two friends beside myself who would like to adopt a foal but would like to know we will be getting something close to our requests since we all are planning on showing these horses in different diciplines in a oouple years. Are there any other web sites to look for information and adoption request?
